In a bid to improve user experience, Instagram’s top boss has announced plans to remove likes from posts to reduce social pressure.
Instagram’s head Adam Mosseri announced the change is designed to minimise the stress of posting their content online, where users can become fixated on how many likes their photos and videos draw. “We want people to worry a little bit less about how many likes they’re getting on Instagram and spend a bit more time connecting with the people that they care about,” he explained.
Users will still see others’ posts as they would normally, but like counts won’t be included anymore. However, you’ll still be able to check your own likes if you really want to by tapping on a click-through prompt – but they’ll only be visible to you.
This function has already been trialed in Canada and it looks like it’s set to be rolled out worldwide over the summer. What do you think? Do you reckon a numberless feed is a welcome breath of fresh air, or do you think it’ll negatively impact your interactions with your followers as a business? Sound off – we’re keen to know!
